Top UK pro and UK Pokernews columnist Stuart Rutter has finally captured a GUKPT title in Coventry. 27 year old Rutter of Birmingham is a former Oxford Maths Graduate and was making his 4th appearance at a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour final, facing Danny Toffel in a cagey heads up match. Eventually, while holding a commanding lead, the pocket nines of Rutter blew away the pocket fours of Toffel to finally give Rutter the major title he has been looking for.
Rutter is one of the most well liked and talented young players on the UK circuit, who has received plaudits up and down the country for both his ability and for what a fantastic ambassador he is for the game. He commented after the win:
“This win is absolutely perfect timing coming just one week before I set off for Vegas and the WSOP. It gives me a great confidence boost which I always struggle for on the GUKPT having made three previous final tables and seeing them go wrong each time.”
Last week in his UK Pokernews column he told us that he planned on playing a lot of mixed events at the World Series of Poker, now we think with this fantastic result added to the mix he must be one of the UK’s brightest hopes in Vegas this year.
It was a star studded final for the event which saw 142 runners at the plush G Casino in Coventry. Former GUKPT Champion Jeff Kimber was joined by another prolific GUKPT finalist, Roberto Romanello. They were also accompanied by UKIPT host Nick Wealthall who was playing his first ever GUKPT. It was a very well run event and Rutter had plenty of kind words for the team involved:
“The tournament has been fantastically run throughout all three days and this is the perfect venue for this poker tour. Playing the final table on the stage in the show bar is an experience I'll never forget. I'd also like to thank my sponsor gcasino.com, who have given me the opportunity to play in all the GUKPT main events this year.”
The main tour takes a break now for the WSOP but through the Summer will be the welcome return of the popular GUKPT Summer Series. A series of smaller events up and down the country starting on Wednesday at Blackpool and Thanet on Friday. There are also events at Newcastle, Aberdeen, Dundee, Walsall, Luton, Sheffield, Manchester and London in the next three months.
